Wulong Karst National Geology Park

The Wulong Karst National Geology Park is located in Xiannüshan (Fairy Mountain) Town in Wulong County of Chongqing and sits on the lower reaches of the Wujiang River in the Southwest Part of Chongqing Municipality. The area was named a World Natura Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007. The karst area in Wulong features spectacular kart landscapes, including the famous Furong Cave, The Three Natural Bridges, and the Houping Giant Doline, among other scenic spots.

The Wulong Karst area is considered somewhat of a natural treasure. It is a cluster of several karst landscapes, including gorges, natural bridges, caves, eroded dolines, shafts, and underground streams, formed in the carbonate rocks since the Pleistocene era. The three karst environments, each formed separately, form an awe-inspiring scenic experience, and Wulong Karst National Geology Park remains one of Chongqing’s all-time favorite tourist destinations.

Together, the Three Natural Stone Bridges form the largest natural bridge cluster in Asia and are among some of the tallest in the world. Similarly, the Houping Giant Doline is the largest sinkhole formed by erosion anywhere in the world and long of the longest underground cavern systems in Asia.

The Tiansheng San Qiao or the Wulong Three Natural Bridges is perhaps one of the most famous and attractive scenic spots in Wulong. Famous well before the Transformers movies filmed a short sequence here, but this scenic spot has become more famous in recent years as more and more foreigners make their way to this unbelievable sight. Local movies have also been filmed here, such as the Curse of the Golden Flower and the Three Natural Bridges is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

At the bottom of the karst area by the three natural bridges, you will find the Tianfu Station or Tianfu Yizhan. A quaint courtyard with blue and gray walls and lanterns. Tianfu Station has become almost synonymous with the Three Natural Bridges and is one of the most photographed locations in the karst area. They were originally built in the Tang Dynasty around 619 AD. It served as a post house for the nearby towns in the mountains. It also functioned as a place where travelers could rest up and sleep overnight.
