Three Gorges Dam: World's Largest Hydropower Project

The Three Gorges Dam is an engineering marvel that stretches 2,335 meters in length and is 181 meters tall, making it the world's largest hydropower project. With 32 massive generators, it produces vast amounts of clean energy, significantly reducing China's reliance on coal.

The Three Gorges Dam tourist area is located in the middle of Xiling Gorge, Sandouping Town, about 40 kilometers from the downstream center of Yichang City. The Dam mainly consists of the main dam body, power generation buildings, navigation buildings and other buildings, including a concrete gravity dam, floodgate, a behind-the-bank hydroelectric power plant, a permanent navigable five-stage locks and a shiplift.

The 3-night and 4-night cruise itineraries on the Yangzi Explorer include an optional visit to the Three Gorges Dam. During this visit, you'll have the chance to explore the River Closure Park and the Three Gorges Project Museum.
