Yichang has been renowned as Gateway to the Three Gorges and Throat between Sichuan and Hubei. It is a bright pearl shining on the Yangtze River.

Covering an area of about 21,000 square kilometers, Yichang lies on the northern bank of the Yangtze River, and has been one of the most important ports and docks for any Yantgze River cruises.

Yichang is where the middle and upper reached of the Yangtze River are divided. Thanks to its advantageous geographical location, it has been defined as a distributing center, an important trading port and a transportation hub along the Yangtze River.

With a history of 4,000 years, Yichang is an ancient and cultural city, and many eminent persons were born here in ancient times, such as the concubine Wang Zhaojun during the Western Han Dynasty and the patriotic poet Qu Yuan in the Warring States Period.

With the Yangtze River running through, Yichang boasts fabulous natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Three Gorges Dam Project, Gezhouba Water Conservancy Project and Chinese Sturgeon Museum are the most famous tourist attractions in Yichang.
